Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Broken sensor harness, Faulty main PCB sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the unit from power before removing covers. Sharp metal edges around the coil can cause injury; wear gloves.

Steps:

  • Access the evaporator: Remove the front or side housing to expose the evaporator coil (cold coil behind the air filter).
  • Locate the sensor: The evaporator NTC sensor is usually clipped or taped directly to the coil tubing or fins with a small metal or plastic clip.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil. If it has fallen off, reattach it securely using the original clip or aluminum tape so it senses coil temperature correctly.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the main PCB. Look for chafing, cuts, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the board.
  • Measure resistance: With a multimeter, check the sensor resistance at room temperature. Compare to the ambient sensor if they are the same type; values should be similar. An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Trotec evaporator NTC sensor assembly if the old one is out of spec or physically damaged.
  • PCB diagnosis: If a known-good sensor still triggers E2, the main control board may be faulty and require replacement by a service technician.
