Possible Causes

Overheated compressor, Blocked condenser coil, Faulty compressor thermal protector, High ambient temperature or poor ventilation around unit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before touching internal components. The compressor and nearby pipes can be very hot.

Steps:

  • Allow cooling: Turn the unit off and unplug it for at least 30–60 minutes to let the compressor cool down.
  • Check placement: Ensure at least 20–30 cm clearance around the unit, especially at the warm air outlet. Do not place it in a confined cabinet or against curtains.
  • Clean condenser: Remove the rear or side panel to access the condenser coil (the warm coil). Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the fins.
  • Inspect fan: Confirm the fan runs at full speed when the unit is on. A failing fan motor or blocked fan wheel can cause overheating.
  • Thermal protector: The compressor has an internal or external overload protector. If it repeatedly trips, the compressor may be failing. This requires diagnosis by a refrigeration technician.
  • Persistent E5: If E5 returns quickly after cleaning and ensuring ventilation, contact a professional; compressor or control board replacement may be needed.
