Possible Causes

Open or shorted defrost NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty defrost circuit on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before working near the refrigeration components.

  • Access evaporator: Remove the front or rear cover to expose the evaporator coil. The defrost sensor is typically clipped to the coil tubing.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil; a loose sensor can misread temperature and trigger F2.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for chafed or broken wires where they pass through metal panels. Reseat the connector on the main PCB.
  • Test sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare with specifications. Replace the defrost NTC sensor if it is open, shorted, or far out of spec.
  • Control board: If F2 persists with a known-good sensor, the defrost control circuit on the main control PCB may need replacement.
