Possible Causes
Room temperature too low for effective dehumidification, Dirty evaporator or condenser coils, Low refrigerant charge, Failed compressor or stuck expansion device
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before accessing internal components. Refrigerant system work requires a professional.
- Check ambient temperature: Ensure the room is within the operating range (typically above 5–10°C / 41–50°F). At low temperatures, little water will be collected.
- Verify humidity level: If the room is already near the set humidity, the unit may cycle off frequently. Lower the setpoint to see if operation increases.
- Clean filter and coils: Clean the air filter. Access and gently clean the evaporator and condenser coils to improve heat exchange.
- Check compressor operation: When running, the compressor should be warm and you should feel temperature difference between inlet and outlet of the coils. If the compressor never starts or runs but no cooling occurs, there may be a refrigerant or compressor issue.
- Professional diagnosis: If cleaning and environment checks do not restore performance, have a refrigeration technician check for low refrigerant, restrictions, or a failed compressor. The compressor or refrigerant circuit may need repair.
