Possible Causes

Open or shorted thermistor, Loose thermistor harness, Thermistor damaged by scale or overheating, Faulty control PCB input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before inspection.

  • Reset: Unplug for 10–15 minutes to clear any transient error, then plug back in.
  • Locate thermistor: On warm mist Vicks humidifiers, the thermistor is usually clipped near the heating element or steam path. On cool mist models, it may be near the air outlet.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the thermistor’s two-wire connector is firmly plugged into the main PCB and that the wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Inspect for damage: If the thermistor bead or casing is cracked, burnt, or heavily coated with mineral scale, it should be replaced with the correct value thermistor for your model.

If replacing the thermistor does not clear E2, the control board may be defective.
