Possible Causes
Stuck or misaligned float, Faulty bucket float switch, Broken bucket tab that actuates switch, Debris interfering with float movement
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before inspecting the bucket mechanism.
Steps to correct false bucket full:
- Inspect bucket and float: Remove the bucket and locate the float mechanism. Ensure it moves freely and is not jammed by dirt or scale.
- Check bucket tab: Many Whirlpool buckets have a molded tab that pushes the internal switch. If this tab is broken, the switch will not reset. Replace the bucket if the tab is damaged.
- Clean float area: Remove any buildup around the float and rinse with warm water. Dry thoroughly.
- Test float switch: Access the internal float switch and test continuity while moving the float. Replace the switch if it does not change state.
Test: Reinstall the bucket and power on. The bucket full indicator should be off, and the unit should run normally.
