Excessive Noise / Vibration
Dehumidifier is very noisy during operation (rattling, buzzing, or grinding)
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose fan blade or blower wheel, Worn fan motor bearings, Loose compressor mounting bolts, Cabinet panels vibrating, Debris contacting fan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before tightening or adjusting components.
Steps to reduce noise:
- Level the unit: Place the dehumidifier on a solid, level surface. Adjust feet if provided.
- Check for loose panels: Tighten all exterior screws. Add thin foam tape between rattling panels if needed.
- Inspect fan and blower: Remove the grille and check that the fan blade or blower wheel is tight on the motor shaft. Tighten set screws or clips. Remove any debris rubbing against the fan.
- Listen to motor bearings: If the noise is a grinding or squealing from the fan area, the motor bearings may be worn. Replace the fan motor.
- Compressor mounts: Inspect rubber grommets under the compressor. Replace any that are cracked or missing to reduce vibration transfer.
Test: Run the unit after adjustments. Noise should be significantly reduced and limited to a smooth fan and compressor hum.
