Possible Causes

Corrupted control board firmware, Power surge damage to EEPROM, Failed main control board, Loose control panel ribbon cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the control panel or board.

Steps to address E9:

  • Power reset: Unplug the dehumidifier for at least 10 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge. Plug back in and check if E9 clears.
  • Check for surge damage: Inspect the power cord and plug for burn marks. If the unit was recently exposed to a power outage or lightning, internal electronics may be damaged.
  • Inspect control panel connections: Remove the top or front panel to access the user interface board. Ensure the ribbon cable between the display/control panel and the main control board is fully seated and not damaged.
  • Look for board damage: Examine the main control board for burnt components, corrosion, or cracked solder joints. Any visible damage usually means the board must be replaced.
  • Replace the main control board: If E9 persists and no loose connections are found, install a Whirlpool-compatible main control board. Transfer any wiring harnesses one by one to the new board to avoid miswiring.
  • Use surge protection: After replacement, consider using a quality surge protector to reduce the risk of future EEPROM corruption.

Test: Reassemble the cabinet, restore power, and verify that the display operates normally and E9 does not return.
