Possible Causes
Standing water in drain pan, Dirty evaporator coil, Clogged drain causing water stagnation, Dirty air filter harboring mold
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Wear gloves and a mask if you are sensitive to mold.
Steps to remove odor:
- Clean filter: Wash the filter with warm soapy water and let it dry completely.
- Access drain pan: Remove the front cover to reach the evaporator coil and drain pan beneath it. Wipe the pan with a cloth and a mild disinfecting solution. Do not flood the unit with water.
- Clean coil surface: Use a coil-safe cleaner or a damp cloth to gently clean the evaporator fins.
- Check drain: Ensure the drain hole and hose are clear so water does not sit in the pan.
After cleaning, run the unit in fan-only mode for 30 minutes to help dry internal surfaces.
