Possible Causes

Evaporator thermistor open or shorted, Sensor dislodged from coil, Connector loose or corroded, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and let it sit for several minutes before opening.

Steps to resolve E2:

  • Access the coil area: Remove the front or side panel to expose the evaporator coil (cold coil). Refer to your Whynter service or user manual for screw locations.
  • Locate the sensor: Find the small thermistor clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing. It usually has thin wires leading back to the control board.
  • Check attachment: Make sure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil. Reattach with the original clip or aluminum tape if it has fallen off.
  • Inspect wiring and connector: Follow the wires to the control board. Reseat the connector and look for any damage or corrosion.
  • Test after reassembly: Reassemble the cabinet, plug in, and run the unit. If E2 remains, the thermistor or control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.

Warning: Avoid bending or stressing the refrigerant lines while working around the coil.
