Possible Causes
Humidity sensor failure, Humidity sensor cable disconnected, Sensor contaminated by dust or moisture, Control board humidity input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dehumidifier before opening the control panel area.
Steps to resolve E3:
- Power cycle: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and test. If E3 reappears, proceed to inspection.
- Locate humidity sensor: On many Whynter units, the humidity sensor is mounted near the air intake grille or on the control panel board, often in a small plastic housing with vents.
- Check connection: Ensure the sensor's plug is firmly seated on the control board. Gently disconnect and reconnect it.
- Clean sensor area: Use compressed air or a soft brush to remove dust from the sensor housing. Do not spray liquids directly on the sensor.
- Test operation: Reassemble the panel, plug in, and run the unit. If E3 persists, the humidity sensor module likely needs replacement.
Note: A failed humidity sensor can cause incorrect humidity readings or prevent the unit from cycling properly.
