Possible Causes

Failed main control board, loose wire harness at control board, blown internal fuse on control board, shorted user interface board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the ice maker or switch off the dedicated breaker before removing any panels. Use a non-contact voltage tester to confirm power is off.

  • Check power supply: Verify the outlet has 120 VAC using a multimeter. If there is no power, check the home breaker and outlet.
  • Inspect power cord and terminal block: Remove the rear lower access panel and inspect the power cord and terminal block for burned or loose connections. Tighten screws and replace any burned connectors.
  • Access the main control board: Remove the top or rear control cover (depending on model). Locate the main control board. Check for obvious burn marks, swollen components, or a blown onboard fuse.
  • Check harness connections: Reseat all wire harness plugs going to the main control board and user interface. Ensure each connector is fully seated and not corroded.
  • Reset the unit: With power restored, plug the unit back in and see if the E1 code clears after 5–10 minutes. If the code returns immediately and power supply is confirmed good, the main control board is likely defective.
  • Replace main control board if needed: Disconnect power, label and remove all connectors from the board, remove mounting screws, swap in the new OEM Amana board, and reconnect harnesses one by one.

If you are not comfortable working with live voltage or control electronics, contact a qualified appliance technician.
