E2 displayed; ice maker runs briefly then stops, or never starts ice harvest

Safety: Disconnect power before removing covers or touching internal components.

Steps:

• Access the evaporator area: Remove the top or side cover to expose the stainless-steel evaporator plate or ice tray assembly.
• Locate the sensor: The evaporator sensor is usually a small, insulated probe or thermistor clipped or taped directly to the evaporator plate or embedded in the ice tray.
• Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface. If it has come loose, reattach it using the original clip or thermal tape so it makes good contact with the metal.
• Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Look for cuts, pinches, or melted insulation. Repair minor damage with heat-shrink and proper splices; replace the harness if severely damaged.
• Test resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the ambient sensor: it should be in a similar kΩ range at room temperature. If it reads open or shorted, replace the evaporator sensor.
• Reset and test: After replacing or reseating the sensor, reassemble panels, plug in the unit, and run a full ice cycle to confirm E2 is cleared.
• Control board: If multiple known-good sensors still trigger E2, the main PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
