Possible Causes
Failed evaporator thermistor, Loose thermistor connection at control board, Thermistor out of position on evaporator plate, Damaged thermistor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges may be present.
- Access evaporator area: Remove the front panel and ice bin to expose the evaporator plate or grid where ice forms.
- Locate thermistor: Find the small sensor (thermistor) clipped or attached to the evaporator surface with a bracket or clip.
- Check placement: Ensure the thermistor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface and has not fallen away or been dislodged by ice.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the thermistor wires back to the control board. Look for cuts, pinches, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector.
- Clean ice and frost: If heavy frost is present, allow the unit to fully defrost (power off, door open) for several hours, then restart.
- Test operation: Restore power and run a cycle. If E05 returns, the evaporator thermistor is likely defective and should be replaced.
