• 1. Power cycle the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If E1 returns immediately, continue with inspection.
• 2. Access the evaporator thermistor: Remove the rear or side service panel (depending on model). Locate the evaporator coil and look for a small sensor clipped to the tubing or mounted near the evaporator plate with two thin wires leading to the control board.
• 3. Inspect wiring and connector: Check that the thermistor plug is fully seated on the main control PCB. Look for broken, pinched, or corroded wires. Reseat the connector several times to clean contacts.
• 4. Test thermistor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor from the board and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the service manual chart (typical NTC values: ~5–20 kΩ at room temperature). If reading is open (OL) or 0 Ω, the sensor is bad.
• 5. Inspect control board: If the thermistor tests good and wiring is intact, inspect the main control PCB for burnt spots, corrosion, or loose solder joints at the sensor input.
• 6. Replace faulty part: If the thermistor is out of spec, replace it with an Avanti-compatible evaporator thermistor. If the board is damaged or E1 persists with a known-good sensor, replace the main control board.
