Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor on control panel, loose or corroded sensor connector, damaged sensor harness, defective main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before removing the control panel or top cover.
How to check:
- 1. Verify installation environment: Ensure the unit is not installed outdoors or in extreme temperatures outside Avanti's specified range (typically 50–100°F). Extreme ambient conditions can trigger E3 on some models.
- 2. Access the control panel: Remove screws securing the front control panel or top cover. Carefully pull the panel forward to expose the wiring.
- 3. Locate ambient sensor: Look for a small thermistor mounted near the air intake or behind the control panel with two wires going to the main board.
- 4. Inspect connections: Confirm the sensor connector is fully seated on the board. Check for corrosion or moisture on the plug and pins. Dry any condensation and reseat the connector.
- 5. Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the service manual chart. Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- 6. Replace control board if needed: If the sensor tests correctly and wiring is good, the main control PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
