Possible Causes

Refrigerant leak in evaporator or tubing, weak compressor, blocked capillary tube, severely dirty condenser coil, failed condenser fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system yourself. Refrigerant handling requires EPA-certified technicians.

User-level checks:

  • 1. Clean condenser coil: Unplug the unit and remove the rear panel. Use a soft brush and vacuum to thoroughly clean the condenser coil fins.
  • 2. Verify fan operation: Restore power and confirm the condenser fan runs whenever the compressor is on. Replace the fan motor if it does not run.
  • 3. Check installation conditions: Ensure the unit is not installed in a very hot, enclosed space. Provide adequate ventilation per Avanti's installation instructions.
  • 4. Observe evaporator frost pattern: With the panel removed, run the unit and watch the evaporator. A normal system will frost evenly across most of the coil. A partial frost pattern or no frost may indicate low refrigerant or a restriction.
  • 5. Call a professional: If cleaning and airflow checks do not clear E9 and the unit still fails to cool properly, contact a qualified refrigeration technician to check for leaks, recharge, or replace the compressor.
