Possible Causes
Dirty water reservoir, biofilm or algae growth, old water filter (if equipped), contaminated water supply, plastic odors from new unit not flushed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and shut off water before cleaning. Use only cleaners approved for ice makers.
Steps:
- 1. Discard old ice: Empty the bin completely and discard any ice with off-odors.
- 2. Clean interior surfaces: Wash the bin, reservoir, and accessible surfaces with warm water and mild detergent, then rinse thoroughly.
- 3. Run cleaning cycle: If your Avanti model has a cleaning mode, run it using an approved ice maker cleaner following the manual.
- 4. Replace water filter (if present): Install a new filter cartridge compatible with your Avanti ice maker or external filter system.
- 5. Flush system: After cleaning, discard the first 2–3 batches of ice to ensure all cleaner and residual odors are removed.
