Possible Causes
Open or shorted evaporator NTC sensor, Loose sensor connector on control board, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control PCB temperature input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels or wiring.
- Access evaporator area: Remove the ice bin and inner cover to expose the evaporator plate or grid.
- Inspect sensor: Locate the Balay evaporator NTC sensor clipped to or embedded near the evaporator. Check that it is firmly attached and not dislodged from its mounting point.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the harness connector. Look for cuts, pinches, or corrosion. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and the control PCB.
- Test sensor resistance: With a multimeter, measure the NTC resistance at room temperature and compare with Balay specifications (commonly in the 5–20 kΩ range depending on model). If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of spec, replace the evaporator NTC sensor.
- Control board: If a known-good sensor still triggers E04, the temperature input circuit on the main control PCB may be defective and the board should be replaced.
