Possible Causes
Defective cabinet NTC sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty control PCB ADC circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before removing any covers.
- Locate cabinet sensor: The Balay cabinet or ambient NTC is usually mounted on the interior liner or near the air return grill. Remove the inner panel if necessary.
- Visual inspection: Check that the sensor bulb is intact and not covered in heavy ice or moisture. Inspect the wiring for damage.
- Connector check: Reseat the sensor connector at both ends. Clean any oxidation with contact cleaner and allow to dry.
- Measure resistance: At room temperature, measure the NTC resistance and compare to Balay's chart. Replace the sensor if readings are out of range or intermittent when the wire is gently flexed.
- Control board evaluation: If the sensor tests good but E05 persists, the main control PCB may misread the sensor and should be replaced.
