Possible Causes

Seized evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan blades, Broken fan blade, Faulty fan driver circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working near moving parts.

  • Access fan assembly: Remove the internal rear or side panel to expose the Balay evaporator fan.
  • Check for ice obstruction: Look for ice or frost blocking the fan. If present, allow the unit to defrost fully (leave unplugged with doors open and towels to catch water) before further testing.
  • Inspect fan blades: Ensure the fan blade is not cracked or rubbing against the shroud. Replace the blade if damaged.
  • Test fan motor: Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely. With a multimeter, check the motor windings for continuity. If open or if the motor hums but will not start, replace the fan motor assembly.
  • Control output: If the motor is good but never receives voltage when the unit calls for cooling, the main control PCB fan output may be defective and require replacement.
