How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before touching the harvest mechanism.
- Inspect harvest assembly: Remove the ice bin to access the Balay harvest rake or ejector mechanism. Look for broken cubes wedged in the rake or between the evaporator and the grid.
- Clear jams: Gently remove any stuck ice with a plastic tool (never use metal tools that can damage the evaporator coating).
- Check motor movement: With power briefly restored, observe whether the harvest motor attempts to turn. If it hums or stalls, disconnect power and check for mechanical binding.
- Test motor and switch: With a multimeter, test the harvest motor windings and the position switch (if fitted). Replace the harvest motor assembly if the motor is open, shorted, or the gearbox is stripped.
If the mechanism is severely worn or cracked, replace the complete ice maker module.
