Possible Causes

Defective compressor start relay, Failed PTC starter, Open overload protector, Locked compressor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the compressor compartment.

  • Access compressor: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the Balay compressor and start components.
  • Inspect start relay and overload: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the PTC relay and overload protector for burn marks, rattling pieces, or melted plastic.
  • Test components: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the overload and resistance of the PTC relay. Replace the start relay/overload kit if defective.
  • Compressor check: Measure resistance between compressor terminals (C-R, C-S, R-S) and to ground. If windings are open, shorted, or grounded, the compressor is faulty and requires professional replacement.

Refrigerant and compressor work should be performed only by certified refrigeration technicians.
