Possible Causes

Blocked condenser coil, Failed condenser fan, Overheating compressor triggering thermal protector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before cleaning or servicing.

Steps:

  • Clean condenser: Pull the unit away from the wall. Remove the rear cover and vacuum dust from the condenser coil. Use a soft brush to remove stubborn dirt.
  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the ice maker per Bauknecht installation instructions. Do not block air vents.
  • Verify fan operation: With power restored, confirm the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on. If not, test and replace the fan motor as needed.
  • Allow cooling: If the compressor thermal protector has tripped, leave the unit unplugged for 30–60 minutes to cool, then restart.

If E12 recurs despite good airflow and a working fan, the compressor may be failing and requires professional diagnosis.
