Beko ice maker displays E06 and the compressor does not start
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker. Compressor and start components carry mains voltage; if you are not experienced with electrical testing, contact a technician.
- 1. Listen for compressor attempts:
- Plug in the unit and listen for a brief hum followed by a click; repeated clicking can indicate start relay or overload issues.
- 2. Access compressor compartment:
- Unplug again and remove the rear lower panel.
- Locate the compressor and its start relay/overload assembly on the side.
- 3. Inspect start relay and overload:
- Remove the plastic cover and gently pull off the relay and overload.
- Shake the relay; if it rattles or smells burnt, it is likely defective.
- 4. Electrical testing (advanced):
- Use a multimeter to check continuity through the overload protector.
- Measure compressor winding resistances; open or shorted windings indicate a failed compressor.
- 5. Replace start components:
- If the relay or overload is faulty, replace with the correct Beko compressor start device kit.
- 6. Reassemble and test:
- Reinstall covers, restore power, and monitor whether the compressor now starts and runs steadily.
If E06 persists and the compressor does not start even with new start components, the compressor itself or the main PCB may be defective; professional diagnosis and possible compressor replacement are required.
