Possible Causes

Failed evaporator temperature sensor in ice compartment, Open defrost heater, Faulty defrost thermostat or thermal fuse, Control board defrost circuit failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the appliance before accessing evaporator or heater components.

  • Check for frost buildup: Remove the ice bin and any internal covers to inspect the ice compartment evaporator area. Heavy frost or ice buildup indicates a defrost problem.
  • Test defrost heater: Locate the Bosch defrost heater around or beneath the evaporator. Disconnect its wires and measure resistance. An open circuit means the heater is bad.
  • Inspect defrost thermostat/fuse: The thermostat is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing. At freezing temperature, it should show continuity. If open when cold, replace it.
  • Test evaporator sensor: Measure resistance of the evaporator NTC sensor and compare to Bosch temperature/resistance chart. Replace if out of range.
  • Replace faulty parts: If the heater, thermostat, or sensor is defective, remove mounting clips or screws, install the new Bosch component, and reconnect wiring securely.
  • Defrost manually: If there is heavy ice, allow the unit to defrost fully (doors open, towels in place) before reassembly. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • Restore power: Reassemble covers, restore power, and monitor for normal frost pattern and ice production over 24 hours.
