Possible Causes

Faulty ice bin level sensor, Broken or misaligned infrared emitter/receiver pair, Damaged bin switch, Loose wiring to level sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working near sensors or wiring.

  • Check bin installation: Remove and reinstall the ice bin, ensuring it is fully seated and not tilted. Some Bosch models require the bin to engage a small switch or lever.
  • Clean optical sensors: If your Bosch unit uses infrared sensors, locate the emitter and receiver on opposite sides of the ice chute. Clean both lenses with a soft, dry cloth to remove frost, dust, or mineral film.
  • Inspect mechanical switch: For mechanical bin switches, verify the actuator moves freely when the bin is inserted. If it is stuck or broken, the switch may need replacement.
  • Check wiring harness: Follow the wires from the sensor or switch back to the main harness. Look for pinched, broken, or corroded connections. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • Replace sensor or switch: If cleaning and reseating do not clear the error, replace the Bosch ice level sensor or bin switch assembly according to the service manual. Mount the new part securely and reconnect wiring.
  • Reset power: Restore power and test by removing and reinserting the bin to confirm the error clears and ice production resumes.
