Possible Causes
Failed ice compartment fan motor, Ice or frost blocking fan blades, Fan wiring harness damage, Control board fan driver failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the fan.
- Listen for fan operation: With the door switch held closed and power on (before unplugging), listen near the ice compartment for fan noise. A loud grinding or no sound at all indicates a fan issue.
- Access the fan: Remove the ice bin and internal covers to expose the ice compartment evaporator and fan shroud.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the fan blades for ice buildup or foreign objects. Carefully melt ice with warm air (hair dryer on low, at a distance) and remove debris. Do not overheat plastic parts.
- Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace fan motor: Remove mounting screws or clips, slide out the Bosch fan motor, and install the new motor in the same orientation. Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the shroud and covers.
- Restore power and test: Plug the unit back in and verify the fan runs during a cooling/ice cycle. Monitor ice production over several hours.
