Possible Causes

Dirty or blocked optical ice level sensors, Misaligned emitter/receiver pair, Failed optical sensor board, Loose sensor harness connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn off power. Remove ice from the bin to prevent spills and allow clear access to sensors.

Steps:

  • Locate optical sensors: On many Café ice makers, an infrared emitter and receiver are mounted on opposite sides of the ice bin opening.
  • Clean sensor windows: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with warm water to clean the sensor lenses. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Check alignment: Ensure both sensor modules are firmly mounted and facing each other directly. Adjust mounting screws if needed.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor harnesses to the control board. Reseat connectors and check for pinched or broken wires.
  • Replace optical sensor kit: If cleaning and alignment do not resolve E11, replace the Café optical ice level sensor kit (both emitter and receiver) according to the service instructions.
  • Test operation: Restore power and verify that ice production stops when the bin is full and resumes when ice is removed.
