Possible Causes
Failed main control board, Corrupted firmware, Loose low-voltage harness connections, Electrical surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before accessing the control compartment. Static discharge can damage electronics; ground yourself before touching boards.
Steps:
- Power reset: Turn off the breaker or unplug the unit for at least 10 minutes to allow the control to fully discharge. Restore power and check if E12 returns.
- Inspect control board: Remove the control cover (usually behind the front lower panel or rear panel). Look for burnt components, bulging capacitors, or signs of moisture.
- Check harness connections: Firmly reseat all multi-pin connectors on the main control board, especially those labeled for sensors, compressor, and user interface.
- Verify proper grounding: Ensure the ground wire is securely attached to the chassis and control board ground point.
- Replace main control board: If E12 persists and no external cause is found, replace the Café main control board. Transfer any jumpers or configuration plugs from the old board to the new one as directed by the service manual.
- Surge protection: Consider using a surge protector on the ice maker’s circuit to prevent future board damage.
