Possible Causes
Evaporator thermistor out of calibration, Poor contact between thermistor and evaporator plate, Partial refrigerant loss, Dirty condenser causing high head pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigerant system; that requires EPA-certified service.
Steps:
- Check condenser cleanliness: Remove the front grille and clean the condenser coils thoroughly with a vacuum and brush.
- Verify evaporator thermistor mounting: Access the evaporator plate and confirm the thermistor is firmly clipped to the correct location on the plate, with good contact and no insulation between.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the thermistor harness to the control board and reseat the connector.
- Replace evaporator thermistor: If ice size and freeze times are erratic and E15 persists, install a new Café evaporator thermistor.
- If symptoms continue: A sealed system issue (low refrigerant, restriction, weak compressor) may be present and must be diagnosed by a professional technician.
