Possible Causes

Failed ambient thermistor, Loose thermistor connection at control board, Damaged harness in cabinet wall, Faulty main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Disconnect power before removing any panels. Avoid drilling or puncturing cabinet walls; refrigerant lines may be embedded.

Steps:

  • Locate ambient thermistor: On many Café ice makers, the ambient or cabinet thermistor is mounted near the air intake grille or behind the front panel, sensing room or cabinet temperature.
  • Visual inspection: Check that the sensor is not dangling, damaged, or covered in dust. Clean gently with a soft brush if dirty.
  • Check harness and connector: Trace the thermistor wires to the main control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and free of corrosion or moisture.
  • Test resistance (advanced): With power off, disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Café’s thermistor chart. Replace if readings are out of range.
  • Replace ambient thermistor: Remove any mounting screws or clips, install the new sensor in the same location, and route the harness away from hot components and moving fans.
  • If E3 persists: The control board’s sensor circuit may be defective and require replacement by a qualified technician.
