Possible Causes
Condenser coil clogged with dust, Condenser fan motor failure, Poor ventilation around built-in Café ice maker, Faulty high-temperature sensor or thermistor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the ice maker or turn off the breaker. The condenser area may be hot; allow it to cool before touching.
Steps:
- Check ventilation: Ensure the front grille and any side or rear vents are not blocked by cabinetry, boxes, or trim. Café built-in ice makers require proper airflow.
- Clean condenser coils: Remove the lower front grille. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment to clean dust and lint from the condenser coils. For heavy buildup, use a condenser coil brush.
- Verify condenser fan operation: Restore power briefly and observe the condenser fan behind the grille or rear panel. It should run when the compressor is on. If it hums, is noisy, or does not spin, disconnect power and inspect for obstructions or a seized motor.
- Replace condenser fan motor if needed: Remove mounting screws, disconnect the wiring harness, install the new Café-compatible fan motor, and ensure the fan blade spins freely.
- Check temperature sensors: If coils are clean and fan is working, the high-temp sensor or thermistor may be faulty. Inspect its wiring and replace if damaged or out of spec.
- Reset and test: After cleaning and repairs, power cycle the unit and monitor for return of E4.
