Possible Causes
Faulty water level sensor in reservoir, Mineral buildup on water level probes, Loose connection between water level sensor and control board, Failed main control board water level circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power and shut off the water supply to the Café ice maker before working on the water system.
Steps:
- Access water reservoir: Remove the front panel and locate the water reservoir or sump where water collects before being pumped over the evaporator.
- Inspect water level sensor: Many Café ice makers use metal probes or a float-type sensor. Look for mineral scale, slime, or debris on the probes or float.
- Clean sensor: Mix a solution of warm water and a small amount of ice machine cleaner or white vinegar. Wipe the probes or float thoroughly. Rinse with clean water and dry.
- Check wiring: Ensure the sensor harness is firmly connected to the main control board and not damaged.
- Test operation: Restore power and water, then run a cycle. If E5 returns, the sensor may be defective.
- Replace water level sensor: Remove any mounting screws or clips, disconnect the harness, install the new Café water level sensor, and reassemble.
- If still unresolved: The main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement.
