Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice or frost blocking fan blade, Loose fan wiring connector, Obstructed air ducts around evaporator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the ice maker. Sharp metal edges and ice buildup can cause injury; wear cut-resistant gloves.
Steps:
- Access evaporator fan: Remove the interior panel or rear service panel (depending on model) to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- Check for ice blockage: If the fan blades are encased in ice, allow the unit to defrost fully (leave unplugged with doors open, towels in place) before proceeding. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Inspect fan blades: Ensure the blade spins freely by hand and is not rubbing on wiring or shrouds.
- Verify wiring: Confirm the fan motor connector is secure and wires are not damaged.
- Test fan motor (advanced): Measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit or burnt smell indicates a failed motor.
- Replace evaporator fan motor: Remove mounting screws, detach the fan blade (if separate), install the new Café-compatible motor, reattach the blade, and reassemble the shroud.
- Reassemble and test: Restore power and listen for the fan starting. Confirm E8 clears and airflow is restored.
