Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or inverter board, Open compressor windings, Loose or burnt compressor wiring, Faulty main control board compressor output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power. Compressor and related components can be hot; allow to cool. Refrigerant system is sealed—do not cut or open lines.
Steps:
- Listen for compressor: After restoring power briefly, listen for a humming or clicking from the compressor area. If it repeatedly clicks and stops, the start device may be failing.
- Inspect wiring: Unplug again and remove the rear lower panel. Check the compressor harness, start relay/inverter module, and connectors for signs of overheating or loose connections.
- Test start device (advanced): Remove the start relay/inverter from the compressor terminals and shake gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, it is likely bad. Measure resistance per Café service specs.
- Replace start relay/inverter: Install a new Café-approved start device or inverter module on the compressor, ensuring correct orientation and secure connections.
- Check compressor windings (advanced): With the start device removed, measure resistance between compressor terminals. Very high or zero readings may indicate a failed compressor, which requires professional replacement.
- If E9 persists: The main control board may not be sending proper power to the compressor and should be evaluated by a technician.
