Possible Causes
Blocked drain hose or outlet, Failed drain pump motor, Stuck drain level float, Faulty drain level sensor or switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and prepare towels to catch any water before opening the drain system.
- Inspect drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks, clogs, or freezing (if installed in a cold area). Clear any obstructions and ensure the hose slopes downward.
- Clean drain pan: Access the internal drain pan and remove any debris, scale, or slime that could block the drain outlet.
- Check drain float: If equipped, verify that the drain float moves freely and is not stuck in the high position. Clean with warm water.
- Test drain pump: With the unit unplugged, check the pump impeller for obstructions. Spin it gently. If seized or noisy, replace the drain pump.
- Electrical test: Measure pump coil resistance and verify continuity. If open, the pump is defective. If the pump runs but no water exits, the hose or outlet is still blocked.
