Possible Causes
Loss of refrigerant charge due to leak, Failed compressor, Blocked capillary tube or filter‑drier, Non‑condensing due to failed condenser fan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. The sealed refrigeration system should only be serviced by certified technicians.
- Check evaporator frost: After running for 15–20 minutes, the evaporator fingers or plate should be very cold and show a thin layer of frost. If it remains warm, there is a cooling problem.
- Listen to compressor: Verify that the compressor is running (low humming sound) and slightly warm to the touch. If it is silent and cool, test the start relay and overload as described in compressor fault procedures.
- Condenser fan: Ensure the condenser fan is running and the condenser coil is not clogged with dust. Clean if necessary.
- Professional repair: If the compressor runs but there is no cooling or only a small part of the evaporator frosts, the system may be low on refrigerant or blocked. This requires leak detection, evacuation, and recharging by a refrigeration technician. Replacement of the compressor or filter‑drier may be necessary.
