Possible Causes

Stuck water level float, defective water level sensor, mineral buildup on float mechanism, disconnected or damaged float sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and drain any water before disassembly.

Steps to resolve E2:

  • Check water level: Ensure the reservoir is filled to the proper level. Some Costway models will show E2 if the float is reading empty when the tank is dry or overfilled.
  • Inspect the float: Remove the top cover or side panel to access the water reservoir. Locate the plastic float or magnetic float assembly. Move it up and down by hand; it should move freely without sticking.
  • Clean mineral deposits: If the float is stiff or coated with scale, clean it with a soft brush and a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and ensure it moves smoothly.
  • Check the float switch / sensor wiring: Follow the float wires to the control board. Confirm the connector is fully seated and that there are no broken or pinched wires.
  • Test the float switch (if accessible): With a multimeter set to continuity, disconnect the float switch and test it while moving the float. It should open and close reliably. Replace if it does not change state.
  • Replace faulty parts: If the float is damaged or the switch is defective, install a new Costway water level float switch / sensor assembly compatible with your model.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall covers, refill the reservoir, plug in the unit, and run a test cycle to confirm the E2 code is cleared.
