Possible Causes

Dirty water reservoir, biofilm or mold growth, mineral buildup on evaporator and tray, use of stale or unfiltered water

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Do not use harsh chemicals that are not food-safe.

Steps to eliminate bad taste/odor:

  • Drain and rinse: Open the drain plug and empty all water. Rinse the reservoir with warm water.
  • Deep clean: Mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part warm water. Fill the reservoir halfway and run a cleaning cycle if available. If not, let the solution sit in the reservoir and water path for 20–30 minutes.
  • Scrub surfaces: Use a soft cloth or sponge to wipe the reservoir, ice basket, water tray, and evaporator. Pay attention to corners and seams.
  • Rinse thoroughly: Drain the vinegar solution and flush the system with at least two full reservoirs of clean water, discarding the first batches of ice.
  • Use better water: Use fresh, filtered water and clean the unit monthly to prevent recurrence.
