Possible Causes

Infrequent cleaning, warm storage conditions, stagnant water left in reservoir, poor ventilation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves if mold is extensive.

Steps to remove contamination:

  • Disassemble removable parts: Take out the ice basket, scoop, and any removable water trays.
  • Wash components: Clean removable parts in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Sanitize interior: Wipe the reservoir and interior surfaces with a solution of 1 tablespoon unscented household bleach in 1 gallon of water, or use a food-safe sanitizer. Do not mix bleach with vinegar or other cleaners.
  • Rinse well: After sanitizing, rinse all surfaces with clean water and dry with a clean cloth.
  • Prevent recurrence: Empty and dry the unit if it will not be used for several days. Clean monthly during regular use.
