Possible Causes

Stuck mechanical float in reservoir, Failed water level sensor or reed switch, Mineral buildup on float guide, Loose or corroded sensor connector at control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and remove the water reservoir before working inside the unit.

Steps to resolve E2:

  • Check water level: Ensure the reservoir is filled to the proper line with clean, potable water. Low water can trigger level errors.
  • Inspect the float: Remove the ice basket and top cover (if applicable). Locate the plastic float in the water reservoir. Move it up and down by hand; it should move freely without sticking.
  • Clean mineral deposits: If the float or guide tube has scale, soak a cloth in a 1:1 white vinegar and water solution and wipe the float, guide, and surrounding area. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Check the float switch wiring: Access the underside of the reservoir or side panel where the float switch wires connect to the harness. Ensure the connector is fully seated on the control board and that no wires are broken.
  • Test the switch: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the float switch and test continuity with a multimeter while moving the float. The reading should change (open/closed) as the float moves. If it does not, the switch is faulty.
  • Replace the water level sensor/float switch: Order the correct Danby water level sensor or float switch assembly. Remove mounting screws or clips, install the new switch, and route wires as originally installed.
  • Reassemble and test: Refill the reservoir, plug in the unit, and run a cycle to confirm the E2 code is cleared.

Note: Persistent E2 after sensor replacement may indicate a defective main control PCB.
