Possible Causes
Failed water inlet solenoid valve, Clogged inlet screen, Kinked or frozen water supply line, Low household water pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and turn off the water supply before disconnecting any water lines.
Steps to resolve F4:
- Check water supply: Confirm the shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open and that other fixtures in the home have normal pressure.
- Inspect the supply line: Look for kinks, sharp bends, or signs of freezing in the line feeding the Danby ice maker. Straighten or thaw as needed.
- Clean the inlet screen: Disconnect the water line at the inlet valve on the back of the unit. Remove and rinse the small screen filter inside the valve fitting if present.
- Test the inlet valve coil: With power disconnected, measure the resistance of the valve coil. Compare to Danby specifications. An open coil indicates a failed valve.
- Check for valve operation: If safe, apply power during a fill cycle and listen/feel for the valve clicking open. No sound suggests a bad valve or control signal.
- Replace the water inlet valve: Install a new Danby‑specified inlet valve if defective. Use Teflon tape on threaded fittings and tighten compression fittings securely.
- Restore water and test: Turn water back on, check for leaks, restore power, and run several cycles to confirm proper filling and no F4 error.
