Possible Causes
Defective bin thermostat, Stuck mechanical bin arm, Broken bin level switch, Loose wiring to bin sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before adjusting or replacing bin level components.
Steps to troubleshoot F5:
- Check bin arm (if equipped): Some Danby built‑ins use a mechanical arm that rests on the ice. Ensure the arm moves freely up and down and is not stuck in the “up” (full) position.
- Inspect bin thermostat: If your model uses a bin thermostat, locate it near the bottom of the ice bin. Check for loose mounting or damaged wires.
- Test the thermostat/switch: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermostat or switch and test continuity. Compare readings at room temperature and when cooled (you can place the sensor in ice water). Replace if readings are out of spec.
- Check wiring harness: Follow the wires from the bin sensor back to the control board. Repair any damaged sections and reseat connectors.
- Replace faulty bin sensor: Install a new Danby bin thermostat or level switch as required. Mount it securely in the original location.
- Reassemble and test: Restore power and verify that the unit starts making ice when the bin is empty and stops when full.
