Possible Causes

Closed or kinked water supply line, Clogged inlet filter screen, Defective water inlet valve coil, Faulty water level sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the water supply valve before disconnecting any hoses.

Check water supply:

  • Verify external valve: Ensure the household shutoff valve feeding the De Dietrich ice maker is fully open.
  • Inspect water line: Follow the flexible water line to the back of the unit. Straighten any kinks and check for damage.
  • Clean inlet screen: Disconnect the water line from the water inlet valve at the rear. Inside the valve fitting there is often a small mesh filter. Rinse it under running water to remove debris.
  • Test valve coil: With the unit unplugged, remove the electrical connectors from the valve coil and measure resistance. An open coil indicates a failed valve that must be replaced.
  • Check for leaks: After reconnecting, slowly open the water supply and check for drips at the valve and hose connections.

Note: If the valve tests good but the unit never energizes it (no humming sound during fill), the issue may be with the control board or water level sensor. These require further electrical diagnosis.
