Possible Causes

Seized evaporator fan motor, Broken fan blade, Ice buildup blocking fan, Faulty fan motor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before opening the interior panels.

Fan inspection:

  • Access fan area: Remove the inner rear or side panel in the ice compartment to expose the evaporator fan motor and blade.
  • Check for ice obstruction: Look for ice buildup around the fan. If present, carefully melt it with warm air (hair dryer on low) and towels. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • Spin the blade: Gently turn the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the fan harness for loose connectors or damaged insulation. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • Test motor: With the motor disconnected and unit unplugged, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.

Note: After replacing the fan motor, ensure all panels and air guides are reinstalled correctly to maintain proper airflow.
