Possible Causes

Clogged drain hose, Blocked internal drain channel, Failed drain pump (if equipped), Improper drain hose installation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before working on the drain system. Water may spill; have towels ready.

Drain system checks:

  • Inspect external hose: Follow the drain hose from the back of the ice maker to the household drain. Ensure it is not kinked, elevated too high, or submerged in standing water.
  • Clear obstructions: Disconnect the hose and flush it with warm water to remove debris or ice.
  • Check internal drain: Inside the ice compartment, locate the drain opening at the bottom. Clear any ice, scale, or debris using a soft brush and warm water.
  • Test drain pump (if fitted): Some De Dietrich models use a drain pump. Access it from the rear or bottom, check for obstructions in the pump housing, and test the impeller for free movement. Measure coil resistance; replace the pump if open or seized.

Installation note: Gravity drain models must have the drain hose run downhill with no traps that can hold water. Correct any installation issues to prevent recurring errors.
