Safety first: Unplug the unit and shut off water before disconnecting any lines.
- Verify water supply: Confirm the shutoff valve is open and the supply hose is not kinked. Disconnect at the unit and briefly run water into a bucket to confirm flow.
- Check for cooling: After plugging in and starting a cycle, carefully touch the evaporator plate after 10–15 minutes. It should be very cold or frosty. If it remains warm, suspect a refrigeration issue (compressor, start relay, or sealed system).
- Listen for circulation: During the freeze cycle, you should hear water trickling over the evaporator. If not, inspect and test the circulation pump and clean its inlet screen.
- Inspect for error codes: Some EdgeStar models will log a code even if not obvious. Check the display or manual for diagnostic mode.
- Call a technician for sealed system issues: If water supply and pump are good but there is no cooling, a sealed system diagnosis is required.
