Possible Causes
Failed main control PCB, Loose or burned wiring harness at control board, Defective power relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker from the wall outlet before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
- Check the outlet and cord: Plug a lamp or another appliance into the same outlet to confirm power. Inspect the EdgeStar power cord for cuts, burns, or kinks. Replace the cord if damaged.
- Inspect the control board connections: Remove the rear or side service panel (varies by model). Locate the main control PCB. Verify that all wire harness plugs are fully seated and not discolored or melted. Reseat each connector one at a time.
- Look for board damage: Examine the control board for burnt spots, bulging capacitors, or corrosion. If present, the board is likely defective.
- Reset the unit: With the unit unplugged for at least 5 minutes, press and hold the power button (if accessible) for 10 seconds to discharge residual power, then plug back in and try to start a cycle.
- Replace the main control board if needed: If E1 returns immediately and power supply is confirmed good, replace the EdgeStar main control PCB with the correct part number for your model. Transfer each connector one at a time to avoid miswiring.
