Possible Causes
Clogged drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Kinked or improperly routed drain line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before working on the drain system. If the unit is built-in, be careful when pulling it out to avoid damaging the drain line.
- Inspect the drain hose: Check behind the unit for kinks, sharp bends, or pinched sections in the drain hose. Straighten as needed.
- Clear clogs: Disconnect the drain hose from the house drain or floor drain and flush it with warm water. Use a small brush or flexible snake if necessary.
- Check the internal drain: Inside the ice bin or sump area, look for debris, ice chunks, or scale blocking the drain opening. Clear any obstructions.
- Test the drain pump: With the unit reassembled and plugged in, start a cycle and listen for the drain pump during the drain phase. If it hums but does not move water, the impeller may be jammed or the pump failing.
- Replace the drain pump: If the pump is silent, seized, or leaking, replace it with the correct EdgeStar drain pump assembly. Ensure all hose clamps are tight and check for leaks after reinstallation.
